On Saturday, May 4, 2024, the traditional TATAMY 9 grappling tournament took place on the premises of the Faculty of Sports Studies of Masaryk University in Brno, which also offered nine superfights.
The main even of all TATAMY 9 - GALA was a duel between two experienced black belts, Michal Kukumberg and Martin Nedbal. The bout ended after just a minute and a half when Kukumberg finished Nedbal on a wrist lock from closed guard.
The main prelims featured a grappling match in the -66 kg weight class between Simon Klein and Radek Mitrenga. Klein managed to roll Mitrenga over de la riva early in the unscored portion of the match. This was followed by a scramble where Klein first tried to take the back of his opponent, who spun and Klein followed him into a mount.
After a while, however, Mitrenga regained guard and a three-minute guard pass by Klein followed, which ended without success. The end of the match then offered high drama as Mitrenga managed to almost out-rotate Klein via lock down and subsequent single leg, who defended the attempt from his opponent via turtle and then positioning himself in top position. The first period ended 0-0 on points and overtime followed, with Klein winning on a quicker escape off his back. So at TATAMY 10: BEATDOWN we can look forward to the Rapčan vs. Klein fight, which will show us who is the Czechoslovakian number one in the -66 kg weight class.
The second kimono match between Michal Sumelidis and Martin Sitar was also an exciting fight. Right at the beginning of the match Sumelidis got into deep half guard, where he eventually rolled over Sitar after a few minutes and got two points. Towards the end, Sumelidis was still trying to get into the mount, but ran out of time and scored a 2-0 points win.
There were also three women's grappling matches. Viktoria Rejzek defeated Julia Mikołajczak before the limit on a rear naked choke, Ema Sehnalova, after a precise performance, finished Alena Delic Gondasova on triangle and Sara Stepanova finished Natalia Sitarova on triangle early in the match.
In the next match we could also see a one man show in the form of a dominant victory of Petr Mynar, who finished the Austrian Marvin Mick on a straight ankle lock. In the combat jiu jitsu fight Erik Nagy won in overtime against David Mibelli. Anton Orlov defeated Jan Broulík 3-0 on points, passing Broulík's guard via knee cut with a minute and a half left.
